The Catholic University of Korea, Catholic Medical Center, Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital

The Catholic University of Korea, Catholic Medical Center (CMC) has a 70-year history as a missionary-founded medical institution. From the start, we have been providing our patients with a holistic approach to medicine, incorporating both science and faith. Due to our success, we have received the trust of our patients, and our image has grown to be associated with excellence and compassion. With our eight hospitals and nine research centers, we are undoubtedly the biggest networked medical organization in Korea.
The Catholic Medical Center is an institution with a long track record of innovations and breakthroughs.
In 1969, we became Korea’s first medical institution to successfully transplant a human organ,
inaugurating Korean organ transplant technology.
In 2004, the Catholic Medical Center succeeded in a small intestine transplant,
one of the most difficult types of organ transplant, for the first time in Korea.
Having also set many records in the most challenging types of hemopoietic stem cell transplantations,
the Catholic Medical Center passed, in 2005, the 2,500 mark in cumulative number of transplants completed in this area.
CMC’s current flagship hospital is Kangnam St. Mary’s Hospital (852 beds),
and it is located near the Korean World Trade Center and JW Marriott Hotel. It attained the ISO 9001 certification in 2005.
The new hospital we currently have under construction is The Catholic University of Korea, Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital. This new hospital will have 1,200 beds, including 110 in the Intensive Care Unit, and will provide a one-stop service with a care system linking the Catholic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Center, Cancer Center, Organ Transplantation Center, Cardiovascular Center, Gynecologic Cancer Center, and the Ophthalmology Center. Its digital and automation systems, such as PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System), EMR (Electronic Medical Record), OCS (Order Communication System), and an IHS (Intelligent Hospital System), will make this new hospital as comfortable a place for patients as their own homes. Until its hospital in Seoul opens, the current flagship, Kangnam St. Mary’s Hospital, serves with 16 medical centers and 180 specialty clinics. Modern technology acquisitions include the CyberKnife, PET-CT, and Robotic Surgery. In addition, this year we finished and opened the new Songeui Multiplex Hall, which will comprise of the new medical school, nursing school, research centers, and much more.
